Lots of news this quarter!

In January, I attended author Robert Vaughan's retreat, known as "Write on the Beach," held at his home outside Gulf Shores, Alabama.  The sand is sugar white and the seclusion complete.  Robert, a Spur Award winner, Pulitzer nominee, and New York Times Bestselling author has written under around forty pseudonyms and put out more than 250 books.  We spent our time together working on plots for upcoming books and on putting together the "dreaded synopsis."

I recently learned that both Summer of Fire and Rain of Fire have been selected as double finalists in the 2007 Zia Award competition sponsored by New Mexico Press Women.  There are five books on the short list from which the winner will be selected on April 28.  The other finalists were published by the University of New Mexico Press.

Lake of Fire, the third book in the Yellowstone Series has been moved by Medallion Press from August, 2007 to October, 2007.  The reason for this is Medallion's new distribution deal with Independent Publishers Group, for U.S. and global distribution!  This is a high honor considering IPG is very selective in terms of the new publishers it takes on for distribution.  Typically about 2% of the publishers who approach IPG for distribution are accepted.  For more information on Independent Publishers Group, please visit: www.ipgbook.com.

Medallion has requested the full manuscript for Night of Fire, the fourth Yellowstone Novel set largely in Jackson Hole during the period 1925-1927.  I am writing hard to get it done.  The story follows the growing family of characters from Lake of Fire (set in 1900) onto a dude ranch in Jackson Hole.  Night of Fire takes place between the earthquake-activated Gros Ventre Landslide on June 23, 1925 and May 17, 1927, when the dammed-up waters behind the slide break free.  This natural disaster destroyed the town of Kelly, Wyoming, and mud stood feet deep in Jackson Town.

I am writing this at the FTW Ranch in the Texas Hill Country, where I am an observer at a marksmanship seminar.  Hopefully, it will help some of my characters learn how to shoot.  We are also visiting the legendary and historic YO Ranch, which is a living museum still taking in guests the way the dude ranches of old did. Lany is a good traveler and has been keeping us company on the tour.

Medallion also requested the full on the third San Francisco contemporary single title, Sins of the Fathers, writing as Christine Carroll.  To see more on the first, Children of Dynasty (September, 2005) and the second, The Senator's Daughter (February, 2008,)  please see www.readchristinecarroll.com for information.
